A pair of gold earrings seized from soccer legend Diego Maradona have been sold at auction in Italy for $36,250 (£22,656)to recoup some of the $52 million (£32.5 million) he owes in back taxes.
Italian authorities have been chasing the huge sum since a court ruling in 2005dating back to the Argentine's stint playing for Napoli in the 1980s.
The earrings were seized in a raid on the star when he attended a weight-loss clinic in September 2009.
They were estimated to be worth $11,500 (£7,900) but sold for three times that amount to an anonymous bidder after an auction in the town of Bolzano.
It's not the first time authorities have attempted to claw back some of the money the 49 year old owestwo watches were seized when he visited Naples in 2006 and sold for $15,900 (£9,900).
