British royal Prince William swapped the comfort of his palace home for the freezing streets of London last week (begs14Dec09)sleeping rough for charity.

The 27 year old, son of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and her ex-husband Prince Charles, teamed up with homeless charity Centrepointwhich helps get vulnerable youngsters off the streetto spend a night outdoors.

The prince braved the wintry weather to bunk down in an alleyway in the British capital on Tuesday last week, with just a piece of cardboard and a sleeping bag, to raise awareness of the organisation.

Prince William, who is patron of the charity, was accompanied by his armed personal protection officer, his private secretary, who is a former solider, and the chief executive of Centrepoint.

He says in a statement, "I cannot, after one night, even begin to imagine what it must be like to sleep rough on London's streets night after night. I hope that by deepening my understanding of the issue, I can help do my bit to help the most vulnerable on our streets."
